About Natural Skincare & Organic Skincare

I'm new to natural skincare, where do I start?

Start with our cult Carrot & Mango Cleansing Butter.  Great skin starts with clean skin, and it's perfect for all skin types.  Here's my simple, paired down method that works.

It doesn't take forever - think 2 minutes max and no grappling with 3 different products.  No tight skin feeling afterwards and no stinging eyes.  It's genius even if I do say so myself!  It is a balm product that you use with a cloth.  More of that in our Organic Cleansing Guide here.

"This butter cleanses my skin in 2 minutes at the end of the day brilliantly. It even gets rid of even the toughest mascara! After using,my skin is clean, fresh and soft. It's the best skin product that I own and would be one of the things I would want with me on a desert island! "  Karen

If you are absolutely wedded to a wash off product, try our Apricot Geranium Cleansing Bar with organic almond and apricot oils.   It is very gentle and won't strip your skin like many foaming type products.

Next comes moisture, ditch dry skin, manage finicky breakout prone skin and manage any specific problems eg rosacea, eczema, sensitivity etc.

I offer a choice of facial oils, a cream product and an intensive balm product.

Facial oils are my first choice for almost all of my clients.  I know oil sounds scary but really unless you are dripping in oil, they are a great choice for all skin types.  Have a look at some of the testimonials for our facial oils and see the difference they have made to other customers; they do the job!  Read more about how facial oils work here.

Our Radiance Facial Essence and our Deep Nourish Facial Essence can both be used morning and/or night and can be layered with our Radiance Cream or Intensive Balm.

I recommend the Radiance Facial Essence with Rose & Marula for oily, combination skin that can break out, and the Deep Nourish Facial Essence with Rose & Blackcurrant for skin that's on the dry side, or for older skins.

When my skin gets very dry, I like to use the Deep Nourish first and then the Radiance Cream or Intensive Balm on top.

If a facial oil is a step too far, I have 2 other options for you.  Our Radiance Cream with Rose & Frankincense is a gentle and rich moisturiser, particularly suited to dry, parched skin and is exceptionally good in a cold climate.  It can be used on its own or layered with one of our facial oils and used morning and/or evening.

Our Intensive Balm with Marshmallow & Frangipani is a decadently scented (with essential oils only!) balm which is perfect to nourish and moisturise skin that needs a little TLC.  It has a rich texture, and is concentrated, so only the smallest amount is needed.  I particularly like to use this at night where the beautiful essential oils help me relax before bed, and I wake up with soft, moisturised skin versus dry, tight, papery skin.

Our Intensive Balm is also a great little multi-tasker, it's gentle enough for your face but great on any other hand, body bits.  Dry legs, chapped hands, sore fingers.  It is also perfect when flying and all of the moisture is being sucked out of your skin.

For eyes, take a look at our Rejuvenating Eye Serum with Rose & Starflower, this is particularly good for those annoying fine lines, or if your eyes get dry and itchy.  It is an oil based serum with organic rosehip oil and arnica oil which helps with any puffiness.  You only need the tiniest amount, literally a drop off the end of the pipette which I apply with my ring finger.

I have sensitive skin, can I use your products?

All of my natural skincare products are intended for sensitive skins, and it's one of the more common reasons women seek us out.

Skincare should be super gentle and non-irritating and we suggest you pare it back to the basics.  Scrupulous cleansing and moisturising is key, and watch those ingredients.

There's no one regime that works for everyone, you will need to monitor your own skin's reaction to ingredients and avoid those that don't agree with you.

Don't let anyone tell you that one product is the answer to all your prayers (if only it was that easy!)

What is a Cleansing Balm?

A cleansing balm has a thicker, paste type texture and will remove makeup, dirt and impurities without stripping the skin.

Where ever you look in the press, cleansing balms are having a bit of a moment.

There's no mess like with a cleansing oil.

There's no dryness, tightness or stinging eyes like with a traditional cleanser.

The best cleansing balms marry all of these elements together.

Our award winning butter dissolves dirt, grime and waterproof makeup, treats your skin and all without any faff or hassle.

Can I use your Carrot & Mango Cleansing Butter as an eye makeup remover?

Yup, you sure can.  It removes all eye make up but does so gently, and is good even for waterproof mascara etc.  When you cleanse your face, I suggest that you massage the Carrot & Mango Butter into your face, leaving your eyes for last.  The Butter will lift all  makeup easily with no scrubbing, and you want to avoid spreading mascara residue all over your face!

Does your Skincare & Bath/Body Products contain any harmful chemicals?

Our ingredients have to earn their place in our formulations - quite simply we don't stuff our products full of bulking agents and fillers and other nasties.

We could add artificial silicones to add 'glideability' to our products, we could add artificial fragrances that never fade rather than our lovely flower oils.  We could use our potent oils at  1%  with the remaining 99% using a cheaper bulking filler and smother our labels with our green hero ingredient.  (We don't).

We list fully all of our ingredients on the website, so you can make an informed choice based on what you and your skin likes.

None of our products are tested on animals.

Some of our products are vegan friendly, and gluten free, check out the product listings or reach out if you need any advice.

These are some of the ingredients we never use:

Synthetic Colours

Synthetic Fragrances

Parabens

SLS/SLES

Mineral Oil

Silicones

Propylene Glycol

Phthalates

GMOS

PEGS

Will a facial oil cause me to break out?

We tend to associate putting oil on our face as giving rise to problem skin; spots, break outs, black heads - but in fact nothing could be further from the truth.

Confused?  Well the whole oil on your face thing is another of those urban  myths.

Oils are super hydrating and they can balance  oil production, not just for dry skin but also those of us with oily skin,  and even skin prone to acne.

A high quality facial  oil can smooth away fine lines, providing an anti-ageing boost to skin leaving it super hydrated and feeling amazingly soft and moisturised.

Is a facial oil suitable if I have oily/combination skin?

Oils are super hydrating and they can balance  oil production, not just for dry skin but also those of us with oily skin,  and even skin prone to acne.

How are beauty products labelled?  Why  is an 'INCI' name?

Legally in Europe, ingredients must be listed in their INCI format.   INCI, or International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients is a standardised way of listing ingredients.

The idea is that consumers can recognise ingredients easily and determine whether a product contains ingredients they want to avoid, or are allergic to for example.

Where it gets slightly more tricky is that the INCI name is based on a mix of scientific, English and Latin names and it's not always easy to work out what an ingredient is - at least not while you are in the aisle of your favourite shop.

Take water for example, most of us would recognise this as aqua.  Shea Butter on the other hand becomes Butyrospermum Parkii.

We list common INCI names here, to help you.

Here is Olga's guide on how to read a label.
