Spring Skin Reset Myths: How to Refresh Your Routine Without the Hype
Does Your Skin Really Need a Spring Reset?
Every year with the arrival of spring we’re told our skin needs a complete "reset."
New season. New routine. New products.
But let’s pause for a moment.
Has your skin actually changed overnight? Probably not.
Yes, the weather is changing (and hopefully for the better!) And yes, your skin might behave slightly differently.
But throwing out everything that’s working — and starting again from scratch — isn’t just unnecessary, it’s often the very thing that causes problems.
Why “resetting” your skin can backfire
As we get older, skin becomes more sensitive. More reactive. Less tolerant of constant change.
And this is something I hear again and again from my customers:
“Products I used to love suddenly irritate my skin.”
“My skin just feels unsettled all the time.”
Very often, it’s not the skin that’s the issue. It’s the constant switching, layering, and overloading.
Introducing multiple new products at once — especially actives — can:
- Disrupt your skin barrier
- Trigger redness and sensitivity
- Leave your skin feeling worse, not better
A better approach: small, thoughtful tweaks
Instead of a full reset, think in terms of gentle adjustments.
Your skin doesn’t need starting over.
It just needs a little support as the seasons shift.
If your skin feels less “thirsty”…
You might find you don’t need quite as much richness during the day.
A lightweight face oil, followed by your SPF and a touch of tinted base, can feel just right — hydrated, comfortable, but not heavy.
If your skin is drying out faster…
Spring often means more time outdoors — and that can increase dehydration.
If your skin starts to feel tight or uncomfortable, layer in a little extra support:
- A face oil to nourish
- Followed by something more protective like Radiance Cream or Intensive Balm to lock everything in
Think of it as adjusting, not replacing.
Don’t forget your body
As we start to show a little more skin, it’s a lovely time to gently exfoliate away winter dryness.
A soft, nourishing body oil will keep skin supple, hydrated and glowing.
Simple. Effective. No overhaul required.
A word on SPF (because it matters)
I don’t include SPF in my products, and that’s very intentional.
It means you can use them day or night, depending on what your skin needs — and layer an SPF on top that works for you.
Because the truth is, SPF is personal.
Natural SPFs can be beautiful, but often heavier, sometimes leaving a slight white cast.
Conventional SPFs tend to feel lighter and often sit better under makeup.
There’s no perfect answer here.
The best SPF is the one you’ll actually use — consistently.
Find one you like. One that works with your skin and your routine. And layer it over your skincare.
The bottom line
Your skin doesn’t need a reset every time the seasons change.
It needs consistency. It needs understanding. And occasionally, just a few thoughtful tweaks.
Ignore the noise. Stick with what works.
And trust your skin — it usually knows what it’s doing.
Here’s to calm, balanced, happy skin.
